Black Sports Magazine was a magazine that launched in April 1971 in New York City and closed later that decade.[1][2] The magazine was published on a monthly basis.[3]
The magazine was the first major sports magazine aimed specifically at Blacks.[4] The magazine was the brainchild of Allan P. Barron, who became President and Editor. Barron teamed with William L. Doneghy, who came aboard as Vice-President and Controller.[2][5] In 1971, Bryant Gumbel became editor of the magazine, leaving the following year.[6][7][8]
The magazine failed in the 1970s[4] and ceased publication in 1978.[3]
