Cuthbert Bardsley

Cuthbert Killick Norman Bardsley(28 March 1907 – 9 January 1991^[1]) was the Anglican Bishop of Coventry from 1956 to 1976.

Early life

He was born on 28 March 1907, the younger son of a Church of England canon.^[2] He was educated at Eton and New College, Oxford.

Ordained Deacon in 1932, he began his career in the East End^[3] and was created Provost of Southwark in 1944.^[4] He became Bishop suffragan of Croydon in 1947, transferring to the more senior See of Coventry in 1956,^[5] a post he was to hold for 20 years.

Bardsley was appointed CBE in 1952, an honorary DD of Oxford University in 1957, a Chaplain of the Order of St John and an honorary DLitt of Warwick University in 1976.
