Georges Marsan (born March 20, 1957) is a Monegasque pharmacist and politician. He serves as the Mayor of Monaco.

Early life

Georges Marsan was born on March 20, 1957.[1] Both his father, Gérard Marsan, and grandfather, Antoine, were pharmacists.[2] The pharmacy was established on the Rue Grimaldi in 1908.[2] Shortly after, it was relocated to Place d'Armes in La Condamine, Monaco.[2][3] Meanwhile, one of his grandfathers was a neighbourhood mayor who helped write the Constitution of Monaco in 1911 in the wake of the Monegasque Revolution.[2]

Marsan graduated from the University of Montpellier in pharmacy in 1979.[1]

Career

Marsan started his career as a pharmacist in the family business on the Place d'Armes.[2] He serves as the president of the Ordre des Pharmaciens de Monaco.[4]

Marsan was asked to run for city council by the former mayor, Anne-Marie Campora in 1991, and he was elected.[1] He has served as the Mayor of Monaco since 2003.[1] He has been elected four times.[5] He was the only candidate in 2011.[6] He won by 75% in 2015.[7]

Marsan is Grand Officer of the Order of Saint-Charles.[1]

Personal life

Marsan is married.[1] He has a son and two daughters.[1]
