Korukkai Veeratteswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Korukkai in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India. The historical name of the place is Tirukurukkai. [1] The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Veeratteswarar . His consort is known as Gnanambikai.

Significance

It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Tirunavukkarasar.

Literary Mention

Tirunavukkarasar describes the feature of the deity as:[2]

“ காப்பதோர் வில்லு மம்புங் கையதோ ரிறைச்சிப் பாரம்

தோற்பெருஞ் செருப்புத் தொட்டுத் தூயவாய்க் கலச மாட்டித்
தீப்பெருங் கண்கள் செய்ய குருதிநீ ரொழுகத் தன்கண்
கோப்பதும் பற்றிக் கொண்டார் குறுக்கைவீ ரட்ட னாரே.

”
