La Dolores
La Dolores is an opera by Tomás Bretón.
La Dolores was first performed at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on 16 March 1895[1] and was an immediate success. The libretto by the composer was based on a 1892 play by his friend, Josep Feliu i Codina.
It had 53 consecutive performances in Madrid and another 103 in Barcelona.[2] The title character Dolores is a maid at an inn in Calatayud.[3]
Antoni Ros-Marbà's recording of Plácido Domingo in La Dolores for Decca won the Grammy Latino in September 2000.[4]
