List of Konglish terms

This list of Konglish terms generally contains Konglish terms not readily understandable to a native English speaker, similar to wasei-eigo terms in Japanese language. Many Konglish terms were invented by Koreans through non-standard abbreviations or combinations of English words or by applying a new meaning or usage to a common English word.

• waisyeocheu/waisyasseu 와이셔츠, Y셔츠, 와이샤쓰, Y샤쓰: dress shirt, ("white shirts")^[1] originally from Japanese language ワイシャツ (wai-shatsu)^[2]
• apateu 아파트: apartment,^[3] originally from Japanese language アパート (apāto)^[4]
• mising 미싱: sewing machine, originally from Japanese language ミシン (mishin)^[5]
• keoning 커닝, 컨닝 /ˈkʌnɪŋ/ cheating,^[6] originally from English cunning via カンニング in Japanese^[7]
• rimokeon 리모컨, 리모콘: remote control,^[8] an abbreviated form
• otobai 오토바이: motorbike (from "auto bicycle")^[9]
• haendeupon 핸드폰: cell phone, from English hand + phone^[10]
• babarikoteu 바바리코트: trench coat ("Burberry coat")^[11]
• wonroom 원룸: studio apartment ("one room")^[12]
• dika 디카: digital camera,^[13] an abbreviated form
• hwaiting or paiting 화이팅 or 파이팅:^[14] used to cheer a player or team in sports, or anyone doing something difficult (from "fighting")
• saida 사이다: soda, such as Sprite, 7-Up and Chilsung Cider (from "cider")
• ero 에로: erotic^[15]
• geullaemeo 글래머: a buxom woman (from "glamour")^[16]
• paenshi 팬시: stationery (from "fancy")^[16]
• hojikiseu 호치키스: stapler (from "Hotchkiss", itself from the E. H. Hotchkiss Company, an early manufacturer of staplers)
• selka 셀카: selfie (from "self-camera")
• wonpiseu 원피스: dress (from "one piece"), can also be said literally as deureseu 드레스
