Nathan Kahane is co-founder of Good Universe, an independent full-service motion picture financing company.[1] Kahane has served as an executive producer on more than 30 films in his career[2] and oversees the development and production of the company's growing feature slate.[3]

Kahane's upcoming slate includes The House (2017 film) starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler for New Line Cinema;[4] the romantic drama Forever Interrupted with Gidden Media starring Dakota Johnson;[5] and the sci-fi thriller Extinction written by Spenser Cohen.[6] Previous productions include such hits as Neighbors (2014 film) and Last Vegas. [7]

Kahane oversees the company’s first look deal with Point Grey Pictures, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s production company run by James Weaver.[8] Upcoming projects include: the Untitled Ben Schwartz Comedy with Gary Sanchez Productions to be directed by Adam McKay and starring Rogen;[9] and The Masterpiece (film) directed by and starring James Franco from a script by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber for New Line Cinema.[10]

Kahane is also partners with Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, and Joseph Drake (film producer) in Ghost House Pictures, a production label dedicated to the financing, development and release of films in the horror thriller genre.[11] Kahane served as Executive Producer on Don't Breathe (2016 film). Ghost House has produced eight #1 box office hits including Don't Breathe (2016 film), The Grudge and Evil Dead (2013 film) for Sony Pictures Entertainment.[12][13][14]

Career

Kahane formerly served as President of Mandate Pictures.[15] At Mandate Pictures, he oversaw such hits as the box office sensation Juno (film) which won an Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay and three additional Academy Award® nominations; the Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle franchise; the Golden Globe®-nominated and Independent Spirit Award-winning comedy 50/50 (2011 film); the Golden Globe®-nominated comedy Young Adult (film); the Golden Globe®-nominated Hope Springs (2012 film); and the break-out comedy This Is the End. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President of Motion Pictures at the Los Angeles-based Senator International heading feature development and acquisition.[16] Before joining Senator International in 2002,[16] Kahane co-headed the development and production slate for The Canton Company, Mark Canton's production company which was housed at Warner Bros., as Executive Vice President of Production.[17] While at The Canton Company, Kahane served as co-producer on the big-budget thriller Trapped.[18] He also served as executive in charge of production for Angel Eyes and Get Carter (2000 film) and packaged high-profile titles including Alexander (2004 film) and Troy (film) [19] Kahane served in a similar capacity for Taking Lives (film), the Warner Bros. mystery thriller.[20]

Early life

Kahane is an alumnus of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and started his entertainment career in the agent training program at ICM.[21]
