Trent Alexander-Arnold (born 7 October 1998) is an English professional footballer who plays for Premier League club Liverpool and the England U19 national football team. He primarily operates as a right back but is also comfortable on the right wing or in central midfield.[1]

Club career

Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold was born in West Derby, home of Liverpool Football Club's training ground, Melwood.[2] He joined Liverpool's academy in 2004 at the age of six and went on to captain the club at U16 and U18 level.[3][1] In 2015, Alexander-Arnold was singled out by Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard in his autobiography, My Story, with Gerrard praising Alexander-Arnold's qualities and tipping him to have a bright future at the club.[4] In the build-up to the 2016–17 Premier League campaign, he travelled with the Liverpool squad to the USA as part of the club's pre-season tour, and on the opening day of the season he was named on the bench against Arsenal.[5]

On 25 October 2016, Alexander-Arnold made his first team debut in the fourth round of the EFL Cup in a 2–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. He was booked in the first half for a foul on Ben Davies before being substituted for first-choice right-back Nathaniel Clyne in the 68th minute.[6] Former Liverpool captain and manager Graeme Souness lauded Alexander-Arnold after his debut, stating that he has "all the attributes to be a top player."[7] His performance also earned him a spot in the EFL Cup Team of the Round alongside teammate Daniel Sturridge.[8] On 8 November, Liverpool announced that Alexander-Arnold, along with Kevin Stewart and fellow academy youngster Ben Woodburn, had signed new long-term deals with the club.[9] He started in Liverpool's next EFL Cup match on 29 November, a 2-0 win against Leeds United and registered his first assist for the club, setting up Divock Origi for the opener.[10] He was named man of the match for his performance.[11]

International career

England national youth teams

Alexander-Arnold has played for England at various youth levels. On 7 October 2016, he scored a brace while playing as a right back for England U19 in a 3–1 win over Croatia.[12] Alexander-Arnold completed the same feat the next month scoring twice in a 3-2 loss to Wales.[13]
