The white-rumped swallow (Tachycineta leucorrhoa) is a species of bird in the family Hirundinidae. It was first formally described as Hirundo leucorrhoa by French ornithologist Louis Vieillot in 1817 in his Nouveau Dictionnaire d'Histoire Naturelle.[2]
It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are dry savanna, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, pastureland, and heavily degraded former forest.[1]
Pop culture
In the episode of Family Guy "Brian Wallows and Peter's Swallows", the swallow is depicted as being a rare species, which is why Peter is forced to keep a nested swallow in his beard, which eventually lays eggs and leaves baby birds.
